SNOW REMOVAL / EMERGENCY INFORMATION

Snow emergency may be declared when two (2) or more inches of accumulated snow is on township roads and/or blowing and drifting snow has accumulated six (6) inches on any township road or highway. When winter approaches, the Middleton Township Trustees and Road Department staff ask that you please note the following:

  • If a township snowplow knocks down your mailbox, please contact the township at 419-352-1480 or via email. You will be issued a $25 stipend for the replacement of your mailbox.
  • If you experience substantial yard damage due to snow removal, please contact the Fiscal Officer or a Trustee.
  • The road department personnel do not plow private driveways or roads.
  • Do not plow, shovel, or blow snow into or across the road. This can be hazardous to other motorists and create additional problems for our drivers.
  • Please do not place trash cans into the roadway when snowplows are expected to be plowing.
  • Please understand that snow in your driveway is unavoidable.
  • If we experience a heavy snowfall, the snowplow drivers will make one pass on their route to open the roads. A second pass will be made on the same route at a later time.
  • Main roads throughout the township are salted and plowed first – then secondary roads.
  • The township does not plow county roads or state routes.
  • Please stay at least 100 feet back from our snowplows. Our drivers cannot see directly behind their trucks. If you are too close, there could be an unavoidable accident. Also, salt could be spraying from our spreaders, and could hit your vehicle.
  • SNOW EMERGENCY REGULATIONS have been established in the township. Resolution 08-1-2004 (in accordance with O.R.C.§505.17) was established to declare snow emergencies in the township. A snow emergency may be declared when two (2) or more inches of accumulated snow is on township roads and/or blowing and driving snow has accumulated six (6) inches on any township road or highway.
  • Permanent signs are erected on township roads subject to snow emergency declarations.
  • The snow emergency will not be effective until two hours after the snow emergency declaration by the news media.
  • Vehicles parked on roads designated as snow emergency routes must be removed within two hours of the media announcement.
  • If designated streets are unable to be plowed due to parked vehicles, those vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
  • Minor misdemeanor charges with a fine of up to $100 can be filed against owners of vehicle in violation of the snow emergency declaration.
